The area

Salento is the land between two seas par excellence, the Adriatic to the East and the Ionian to the West. It has a 250 km coastline; fine sand beaches and sheer cliffs plunging in the most glittering water of the Mediterranean. In the northern part of the Adriatic side, you will find Torre Chianca and Torre Rinalda: the ideal places for lovers of long stretches sand. Starting from here and going towards South, you will find stretches of sand and more rocky coast. Here, You can sunbathe on the shores of Torre Dell’Orso or the Alimini Lakes; dive a little further South, from the nice cliffs of Castro to Miggiano, a wonderful place bathed by emerald waters. For the more adventurous travelers, just before Santa Maria di Leuca, there’s the possibility to dive into crystal waters from a 40 meters height of the Ciolo bridge.
Then, going up the Salento peninsula on the Ionian side, the coast will appear mostly sandy, alternating with some mainly small rocky coast.
Do not miss the sunset on the small bay of San Gregorio, where the sun directly "plunges" into the sea. The bay of Porto Selvaggio is also worth a visit, a large natural reserve characterized by a rocky beach bathed by cold currents. Going further up the coast, you will find the most famous sand stretches such as that of Porto Cesareo and Torre Lapillo, or the beautiful beach of Punta Prosciutto, which will enchant you with its fine sand dunes and turquoise waters. Moving from the coasts, everywhere in the hinterland you will breathe culture and tradition and could be dazzled by the whiteness of the Lecce stone, which illuminates the alleys through the old town – Lecce above all - the provincial capital of the Salento area. So, here, like everywhere in Puglia, many different landscapes will surprise you and affect you.
